Wizard Panel 1 (Using a WordToWeb Project)

This version of panel 1 appears when you open or create a WordToWeb project. To do this, you choose Open/Create WordToWeb Project from Microsoft Word's the File menu, or if Word is not already running, you can launch WordToWeb from its icon under the Start menu.

This panel is where you specify which Word document(s) you will be converting to HTML format. The controls in the wizard panel allow you to easily add, remove and rearrange documents. You can also set the title for documents and determine how you want to break your publication down into HTML pages.

To Add a New Document to the List

  1. Click Add >> to place the new document at the bottom of the list or Insert >> to place the new document immediately before the selected line in the list.
  2. The Open dialog box will appear. Navigate to the document that you want to add to the list and click the Open button. You can add more than one document by holding down the left mouse button and dragging.
  3. The document name and path will be added to the list. You will also see a preview of the document appear behind the wizard. This helps you to be sure you have selected the right document. If not, click the Remove button and try again.

To Change the Order of Documents

If your HTML publication will be based on more than one Word document, the order in which the documents appear in the list is very important because it will determine how the resulting HTML pages are linked together. You can change the order using the Up and Down buttons to move the selected document up or down in the list.

To Remove Documents from the List

Select a particular document and press Remove. Or press Clear to remove all the documents.

To Set the HTML Title for a Document

  1. Select the document in the list.
  2. Type the title for the HTML document in the box and click Set.

The title is initially set based on the Word document's title.

To Specify how Word Documents will be Broken into HTML Pages

If you don't want to break your Word documents into smaller pages, check the Same as Word Documents radio button. Otherwise, check the heading styles on which you want to break your documents.

Note the following about how WordToWeb breaks documents into smaller pages:

  • The first page will be assigned the title specified for the Word document. Subsequent pages will be given a title based on the heading which begins the page.
  • WordToWeb will not break on the first heading in a Word document and will not place an "orphan" heading alone on a page.
