  • Microsoft Word 95 or later. Microsoft Word 97 or later is recommended.
  • A mouse or other pointing device.
  • A display driver with at least high color (16-bit color) is recommended, but not required.

  2. In Windows Explorer or File Manager, double click the SETUP.EXE program on the diskette or the installation file you downloaded. Then follow the instructions on the screen.
  3. In order to complete the installation of WordToWeb, you must start the program from its icon at least once. We recommend you begin by converting the examples and online manual as described below.
  4. If you are using Microsoft Word 2000 or later, macro security must be set to low or medium. To do this, From Word's Tools menu, Choose Macro | Security and then set the level.

Translating the example projects and online manual

WordToWeb includes several example projects which will give you a chance to try the product and become familiar with its basic operation. The first two examples demonstrate some of the capabilities of WordToWeb.

The best way to get started is to try translating some or all of these example projects using WordToWeb. The source Word documents for all the examples are located in the /docs subdirectory under the main WordToWeb installation directory. You may want to open these documents in Word and then compare the source documents with the translated HTML publications in order to get a feel for how WordToWeb works.

The last three examples are set up to translate the source document for this manual using different formatting and layout options. A Word icon is created in the WordToWeb group which allows you to open this source file.

Follow the steps below to translate the examples—this will give you a chance to see WordToWeb in action and will also provide you with an online reference resource.

  1. Select the WordToWeb icon from the Start menu. Word will start and the Open/Create WordToWeb Project dialog box will appear.
  2. In the Existing Projects list, double click the project which you want to open.
  3. The first panel of the WordToWeb wizard will appear. If you wish, you can move through the panels and examine some of the settings. When you are ready to translate the example, click Finish.
